Online Learning Systems for Wise Career Moves, Pt. 2

Online Learning Systems for Wise Career Moves, Pt. 2

If you’re considering a change in career, be sure to have a well-developed plan for making the transition. Don’t rush into a commitment with a training program or online learning system until you’ve thought long and hard about it, and have developed a strategy.

Changing careers takes time and patience. And while online learning systems are certainly convenient and flexible, you may expect to dedicate a comparable amount of time to online learning systems as you would a traditional course.

Get to know your skills. Richard Bolles, author of What Color is Your Parachute? 2003: A Practical Manual for Job-Hunters and Career-Changers, gives some basic but valuable words of wisdom. “When people change careers,” he says, “they have to figure out what they most enjoy doing in terms of skills.” Be sure to put your needs and specific skills first, rather than looking to the job market to make your choice. The career that’s right for you takes advantage of both your skills and your interests.

Online Learning Systems for Wise Career Moves, Pt. 1If you think it may be time for a career change, review your options. An online learning system such as education, nursing or law enforcement may help you obtain a more secure profession.

According to a recent article in KCRA News, California’s jobless rate reached 8.4 percent in November. However, there are still some jobs available that are claimed by the California Job Journal to be recession-proof, such as careers in technology, school learning systems, and health care industries. The California Employment Development Department has advised those who are out of work to consider transitioning into other careers.

If you are looking for a career change but lack the necessary education, a wealth of online learning systems is available to receive career training. A job-specific career education program can profoundly upgrade your employment opportunities.

Smoother Career Transitions with Online Learning Systems

January 27th, 2009 by Robin Green

Smoother Career Transitions with Online Learning SystemsAccording to the U.S. Department of Labor Statistics, the average person makes more than three career changes during their working life. Many people consider online learning systems to prepare for the worst during a recession, and position themselves more strategically for the next career move.

Of course, some jobs are better equipped to weather an economic storm than others. However, it’s a difficult truth that economic downturns involve downsizing and layoffs for many organizations. Those who have lost their jobs during a recession period, and see few job prospects in their field, may take this time to reflect on their career paths and prepare themselves for a profession change. Many look to online learning systems to begin this process.

Financially Supportive Online Learning Systems

January 27th, 2009 by Robin Green

Financially Supportive Online Learning SystemsThe financial advantages of online learning systems are indeed significant, and different types of financial aid are often available if one looks for them. Not only do many online colleges help students acquire federal loans, but many employers, like Starbucks, offer tuition reimbursement for online learning systems.

There’s no better time to take advantage of your employer tuition reimbursement program than during a recession, when professional security may be precarious and the job market is highly competitive. Improve your resume and value as an employee by earning an online degree. Check to see if you qualify for tuition reimbursement.

Another financial advantage of online learning systems is that you may be able to defer your current student loans. This could save you a significant amount of money a year, and you won’t have to resume payment until you’ve finished your online degree.

Reaching for Online Learning Systems in Times of Recession, Pt. 6What are some reasons to consider an online learning system during a recession? Of course, online courses are usually affordable alternatives to traditional universities. During an economic downturn, it may be the perfect time to invest in yourself and gain the skills that will make you a more valuable employee.

In addition, when the economy springs back to life, your online learning system investment will have paid off by boosting your value in a competitive job market. After you complete your online degree, you may become eligible for a promotion or salary raise.

For those students who have lost their jobs or are considering a change in profession, the cost of tuition for an online degrees may not be realistic. However, many online colleges help enrollees take out federal student loans, which can ease the financial strain on adults with families to feed and bills to pay.

Reaching for Online Learning Systems in Times of Recession, Pt. 4

Reaching for Online Learning Systems in Times of Recession, Pt. 4

The importance colleges and universities ascribe to online course offerings varies. According to the 2008 Sloan Survey of Online Learning, both public universities and two-year colleges agreed that online courses were “critical” to their long-term strategies. Baccalaureate institutions, on the other hand, generally refrained from assigning such dramatic significance to online learning systems. Still, the survey showed 58 percent of all participating colleges agreed that online learning systems were strategically critical.

This percentage has stayed largely consistent over the last four years, leading the report’s authors to conclude that the perceived strategic significance of the internet may have reached a plateau. However, they also note that 70 percent of colleges report that competition for the growing number of students interested in online learning systems is increasing.

“For the first time, [schools] are seeing students choose another college for its online program,” said one report author. This competition may lead schools to increase their geographic reach, focusing more on online and LMS students.

Reaching for Online Learning Systems in Times of Recession, Pt. 3

January 23rd, 2009 by Robin Green

Reaching for Online Learning Systems in Times of Recession, Pt. 3Assuming the recession continues to draw more adults to online learning systems, it will amplify an online trend that has been continuing since the Sloan Consortium began publishing its online-education reports in 2003. As of 2007–the most recently analyzed data–more than a fifth of all students enrolled in higher education learning systems were taking at least one online course. The survey defined an online course as one in which “at least 80 percent of the course content is delivered online.”

According to that same survey data, the most enthusiastic and prolific deployers of LMSs and online learning systems were two-year colleges and large public institutions. A year later, however, Sloan report author I. Elaine Allen says that public institutions are “not anticipating huge growth online anymore.” Two-year and for-profit private institutions, on the other hand, still have much untapped potential for online enrollments, says Allen.
