Online Training Can Be an Effective Tool to Help Quit Smoking

We’ve spoken before about how bad smoking is for you, especially when you have to sneak out of your office multiple times during the day to support the habit. Not only does smoking jeopardize your good health, it negatively impacts workplace productivity because employees have to journey outdoors to puff away. We all know how hard quitting is, but with a little help from technology, it is becoming easier.

Your Plan of Action Now Includes Electronic Cigarettes as Well as Online Training

The latest “trend” in smoking is making it possible for millions of people to kick the habit. No, it’s not cigars, but electronic “e-cigarettes” which produce vapor instead of smoke, are what some smokers are turning to in order to wean themselves off the real thing. In fact, some celebrities are kicking the habit with e-cigarettes, and are “vaping,” instead of smoking.

According to statistics tallied in the United Kingdom, the number of e-cigarette users in the U.K. has risen from 700,000 in 2012, to about 1.3 million so far this year. Lots of people in North America have taken to using e-cigarettes as well, with social media groups and video blogs popping up almost daily, giving “vapers” a platform for sharing their experiences. And, if the celebrities are doing it, it can’t be all bad, can it? That’s not to say we should take up drunk driving and snorting cocaine. Let’s not forget about the dark side of celebrity!

E-cigarettes contain a liquid form of nicotine, combined with propylene glycol (which creates the vapor), loaded into cartridges that are inserted into the faux cigarette. The level of nicotine is less than that of a traditional cigarette, minus all the harmful chemicals contained in the tobacco. Theoretically, vaping is healthier than smoking, but the medical community is still on the fence about the benefits of the practice. Some medical professionals think vaping is not a safe alternative to smoking; others believe it is a way to eventually quit smoking altogether. Still more argue that vaping will encourage young people to take up the habit because it looks cool.

The bottom line is, smoking will eventually kill you, and it’s best to quit as soon as possible. Vaping could be the best hope yet for smokers who were not able to quit smoking using the gum, patches, and/or pills. Fortunately, there is also online training to help us kick the habit. Employers who care about the health and well-being of their employees will encourage them to take care of themselves. Online training is the easiest way to disseminate information that will help employees make those lifestyle changes that will help them get healthy. Spending some quality time learning about heart health, and the hazards of smoking beat hanging out with Joe Camel and the Marlboro Man.
