Theme-Base Collaborative Language Groups for Children with Complex Communication Needs
Prioritizing teaching opportunities for students with complex communication needs requires thoughtful decision making. It can be difficult to provide learning opportunities to groups that include peers with varying degrees of communication abilities. However, exposure to group learning is important and possible.
This 1 hour session will describe the structure and implementation of theme-based collaborative language groups for elementary aged children with complex communication needs in a school setting. It will include planning for themes, vocabulary and activity selection, and ways to scaffold group materials to provide individualized learning opportunities.
