ALLERGIES - The immune system reacts to a foreign substance that is not generally harmful (examples – certain foods, latex, pollen, insect stings/bites, medications or pet dander). This course provides basic information on the management and treatment of allergies.
ANAPHYLAXIS is a severe, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction. It may occur in adults or children not previously known to be allergic or hypersensitive. The reaction ranges from mild, self-limited symptoms to rapid death. Symptoms of a reaction can occur within seconds to minutes after exposure. This course will review signs, symptoms and treatment of this life threatening condition.
LATEX ALLERGY is a reaction to certain proteins found in natural rubber latex, a product manufactured from a milky fluid that comes from the rubber tree. Latex allergy may cause allergic reactions ranging from sneezing or a runny nose to anaphylaxis, a potentially life-threatening condition. This course will review signs, symptoms and treatment of this latex allergies.
ASTHMA AND ASTHMATIC EMERGENCIES - Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the airways. It is best understood as the clinical result of two linked processes, airway inflammation, and bronchial hyper-reactivity. While bronchial hyper-reactivity is often genetically determined, viral infection may induce asthma. Airway inflammation is often triggered by allergies or viral illness. This course will review signs, symptoms, and treatment of asthma and asthmatic emergencies
