To Prenup or Not to Prenup? Consider Online Training

Tod Browndorf | Oct, 16 2013

These days, most couples with significant assets are labeled as crazy for getting married without first having a prenuptial agreement drawn up. Apparently, such is the case with Bruce and Kris Jenner, who finally admitted to living apart this week to the apparent glee of the tabloid media. Reports claim that the couple have assets of $125 million, but there was no prenup in place when they got married 22 years ago.

Half!

The Jenner/Kardashian clan resides in California, which is one of many community property states in the U.S. That means, if no prior arrangement has been made, a couple will split their assets evenly when they divorce. That could get rather ugly, considering that both Bruce and Kris have accumulated quite large piles over the course of their marriage. Of course, Kris’ pile is quite a bit bigger, and has come more recently, since she decided to showcase her family on a reality television show. That move has made the name “Kardashian” exponentially more well-known than when her deceased ex-husband agreed to be part of O.J. Simpson’s legal defense team. Plus, it has made the Kardashians the poster children for overt consumerism; just a few minutes spent watching their reality show allows viewers access to their lavish life of luxury.

For those of us who have not accumulated a level of wealth equal to that of the Jenners and Kardashians, we need to have legal documents in place to protect ourselves. After all, not everyone can have access to the kind of legal counseling the super-wealthy do. Fortunately, there are online training courses that can help us determine the most prudent legal action that might be appropriate if “happily ever after” doesn’t materialize.

Coggno has an extensive selection of legal online training courses that can help us navigate the often confusing mess of divorcing. Those courses include child support guidelines, drafting of divorce agreements, alimony, and child custody. If you can’t afford a top-flight divorce attorney to get you over the rough terrain of dissolving your marriage, a little time spent with your laptop, tablet, or smart phone could provide some needed insight.

Although it remains to be seen what will happen between Bruce and Kris Jenner, the vast majority of us need to move on with our lives as quickly as possible. After all, how many of us can flee from our spouses to spend quality alone time in a rented Malibu beach house? My guess is, not many.
