Top 3 Highest Paying Certifications in 2016

Tod Browndorf | Jul, 14 2016

With a constantly evolving society, due to the progression of technology and developments within companies, it can be difficult for professionals to identify what certifications are the most beneficial for their careers. Your time, as a professional, is extremely valuable. How you manage your career and where you pour your talent greatly impacts the trajectory and extent of success. Within both your career and company, knowing where to invest your time and efforts is a major factor of success.

Identifying these top paying certifications within 2016 can be evaluated through a range of standards. Professionals at LinkedIn state their criteria for this identification as, “A certification had to have at least 100 survey responses to ensure that the data was statically accurate. The affiliated certification exam had to be available as of the writing of this article. Some certifications may pay more than those listed but were excluded from this article due to a low number of survey responses or lack of future availability.” Global Knowledge’s standards differed slightly, as they shared, “A certification had to have at least 100 survey responses to ensure that the data was statically accurate. The affiliated certification exam had to be available as of the writing of this article. Some certifications may pay more than those listed but were excluded from this article due to a low number of survey responses or lack of future availability.”

After evaluating several standards and the top certifications they’ve described, here are the top three highest paying certifications of this year.

AWS Certified Solutions Architect

The Amazon Web Services’ baseline certification was developed in 2003. Professionals certified under this training can expect around $125,871 a year. This is not an entrylevel certification, but is designed for professionals with previous web design experience. In order to receive this certification, an exam is conducted to analyze the professional’s mastery of various programs. Global Knowledge shares insight regarding the AWS Certified Solutions, “Since the release of the AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate certification, AWS has rolled out four additional certifications, including the AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional. According to this year’s salary survey responses, each of the five AWS certifications brings in an average salary of more than $100,000, but the others did not meet the minimum number of responses needed to make our list. Based on the number of companies moving to the cloud and the growth of AWS, I would certainly expect to see a few more AWS certifications on next year’s list.”

CompTIA, Cisco

This certification is unique in it’s nature. The CompTIA certification is one that can be accessed through an entrylevel job, which is extremely rare for a highpaying opportunity. Cisco’s Learning Network outlines why this certification is of such a high level,”CompTIA is the voice of the world’s IT industry and the leading provider of technology–neutral and vendor neutral IT certifications. The CompTIA Network+ certification exam covers managing, maintaining, troubleshooting, operating and configuring basic network infrastructure.” Essentially, the mastery of this certification enables professions for a wide range of job possibilities. CRN shares more regarding the prestige of Cisco’s certification, “Counting up from five in terms of popularity is the Cisco Certified Network Professionals (CCNP) routing and switching certification, which pays an average of $95,881 and was held by 292 respondents last year; CompTIA’s Security+ at $81,467 and 903 respondents; and CompTIA’s Network+ at $74,828 and 1,200 respondents.”

Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC)

Paying $122,954 annually, professionals obtaining the CRISC certification have worked for every penny. In order to qualify for application, professionals must have at least three years of experience within a minimum of 2 areas the CRISC certification covers. Then, professionals must pass an exam that is given semiannually. Additional educational credits are also mandatory for completion of the program. These requirements require years of careful and intentional planning, consequential of such a highplaying certification. LinkedIn shares additional information regarding the certification, “Similar to the way that CompTIA manages the A+ and Network+ certifications, the nonprofit group ISACA, which formerly stood for Information Systems Audit and Control Association but now is an acronym only, offers the CRISC certification. Designed for IT professionals, project managers and others whose job it is to identify and manage risks to IT and the business through appropriate information systems (IS) controls, CRISC certification, introduced in 2010, covers the entire lifecycle, from design to implementation to ongoing maintenance. It measures two primary areas: risk and IS controls. Similar to the IS control life cycle, the risk area spans from identifying and assessing the scope and likelihood of a particular risk to monitoring for it and responding to it if/when it occurs.
