Effectively Inject Botox For Both Aesthetic And Therapeutic Purposes - Course Overview
Wondering how to be an exceptionally good Botulinum toxin injector? The aesthetic and therapeutic injection sites are similar, and the things you need to know to effectively treat either kind of patient are the same.
Stress causes muscle contractions and nerve ending compression around the face and head, and that can cause migraines and TMD as well as wrinkles. That’s how Botox can work for both of these situations -- by releases the muscles in the same way that surgery can for the medical issues.
Using the right needle and the right amount of Botox controls how much the product diffuses and keeps pain to an absolute minimum. Injectors can even control how long the Botox material lasts before injection by choosing carefully how it’s mixed. Proper injection technique involves determining precisely how much of the needle is inserted. The skin is pitched and moved during and after injection to help control the flow of the product to the right parts of the face.
For safety, all injections should be at least an inch away from the eye’s orbital rim, and other crucial areas need to be avoided as well. Injections must avoid veins, and the zygomatic arch must be avoided because injection below this area can cause a turning up of the corners of the mouth.
Patients who have had certain muscle conditions like Bell’s Palsy or a stroke aren’t good candidates for Botox, especially around the mouth, and cannot be injected because of the facial muscle weakness they already have. Patients can be injected, however, to deal with smoker’s lips or unusually tight lips. Even gummy smiles can be treated with Botox as long as the patient understands that the nasolabial folds will be softened as well. Injecting deeply can also treat masseteric hypertrophy which is associated with TMD.
It’s even possible to correct mistakes from previous Botox injections with careful techniques, good form and the right amount of the product. For both aesthetic and therapeutic Botox injections, what matters most is careful planning and proper injection technique.
