Description
Billy Mills (born in1938) was an Olympic Gold Medalist in the 10,000-meter run at the 1964 Olympics. At the time he was the only person from the Western Hemisphere to win the Olympic gold in this event. He now supports Native youth with his foundation Running Strong for American Indian Youth.
National Native American Hall of Fame is committed to providing generational continuity with the past while exemplifying and honoring the evolving Native American in modern society. It it through education and outreach that NNAHF helps people understand how Native Americans overcame the hopelessness of early reservations, and the trauma of Indian boarding schools, poverty, discrimination, racism, and the cultural divide to not only adapt but to achieve greatness in every field, profession, and industry. Through the NNAHF K-12 curriculum we identify and honor these contemporary path makers, new heroes, and significant contributors to American society.
