Description
One of the most important communication skills is assertiveness.
It’s the ability to express your thoughts and feelings with confidence. Assertive people can have more impact at work, and find it easier to earn their colleagues’ trust. There’s another side to assertiveness as well, which sometimes gets overlooked. It’s not just about communicating your point of view. It’s also the ability to hear and respect other people’s thoughts, without feeling defensive or anxious when there’s a difference of opinion.
In this course, we’ll walk step-by-step through a tricky conversation, and find out how to approach it assertively.
First, we’ll learn the importance of practising what you’re going to say, and pick up some tips for practising effectively. Then we’ll look at picking the right moment for a difficult conversation, as a key tool for managing the situation. Next we’ll look at the conversation itself. We’ll learn how to speak assertively and use assertive body language to demonstrate confidence.
There’s also an assertive way to listen and respond, and that’s what we’ll examine next. Finally, we’ll learn how compromise can be a powerful tool for assertiveness, and see how it’s done.
By the end of the course, learners will be equipped to approach even the most difficult workplace conversations in a calm, confident way. As well as an overview of the best approach, learners will have practical, actionable strategies for demonstrating assertiveness.
