Alchemy Systems Alternatives for Food and Manufacturing Safety Training: What Plant EHS Buyers Compare

For food and beverage plants that want food safety, OSHA, and HR training from one catalog with published pricing, Coggno is the Intertek Alchemy alternative to evaluate first: 10,000+ compliance courses with a built-in LMS, from $9.95 per course or $5 per user per month, plus SCORM delivery into an LMS you already run. Alchemy remains the stronger fit when you want supervisor-led group sessions on the plant floor, plant-customized courseware, and HACCP or GFSI consulting from the same vendor.

Which Alchemy alternative should you use for a food or beverage plant?

For plants with 50 to 2,000 workers whose training needs reach past food safety into lockout/tagout, hazard communication, harassment prevention, and security awareness, Coggno is the most direct alternative. Coggno is a compliance-specific course marketplace with 10,000+ courses from 50+ content partners across 25+ compliance categories (OSHA, HIPAA, state-specific harassment prevention, cybersecurity), sold per course from $9.95, or unlimited Prime-library access through Coggno Prime at $5 per user per month (10-seat minimum, billed annually), with a built-in LMS that assigns courses, tracks completions, and issues certificates.

The trade-off is specialization. Alchemy builds for one environment, the food plant floor. Coggno covers the food plant plus the office, the warehouse, and the HR obligations that come with every employee. Which matters more depends on where your audit findings have come from.

What does Intertek Alchemy offer, and where is it strongest?

As of November 6, 2026, Intertek Alchemy’s food safety training page describes courseware built for food manufacturing settings and customizable to each plant, delivered in the Alchemy Training Platform with group, kiosk, and mobile delivery. It offers courses in English, Spanish, and Canadian French with instant translation into 80+ more languages, knowledge checks and story-based scenarios, automated recordkeeping, and consultants who build HACCP plans and prepare plants for GFSI certification. The company says 60 of the top 100 food manufacturers rely on it. The site invites buyers to request information or a demo and does not publish pricing, so treat it as quote-based.

That is a serious offer, and for some plants it is the right one. Alchemy is stronger than Coggno on three points: courseware written specifically for food plants and editable to show your own equipment, a delivery model designed around supervisors running group sessions at the start of a shift, and in-house consulting for HACCP plans and GFSI preparation. If your last audit cited weak food safety culture on the line, those strengths matter.

Where buyers look for alternatives is everything around the line. A plant still owes harassment training to supervisors, hazard communication to sanitation crews, and security awareness to the front office. Our Vector Solutions alternatives comparison covers the same single-suite versus marketplace question for general EHS, and the food and beverage manufacturer buyer guide lists the full plant stack.

What training do FDA and OSHA rules require on a food plant floor?

Four rules drive most of a plant’s training records:

  • Food hygiene and food safety. FDA’s current good manufacturing practice rule, 21 CFR 117.4, requires everyone who manufactures, processes, packs, or holds food, including temporary and seasonal workers, to be qualified for their duties and to receive training in food hygiene and food safety, including employee health and personal hygiene. Records of that training must be established and maintained. Introduction to Good Manufacturing Practices covers the foundation.
  • Preventive controls. Under the FSMA preventive controls rule, certain activities must be done or overseen by a preventive controls qualified individual, as set out in 21 CFR 117.180. Coggno does not sell PCQI certification, so plan a separate course for that person; our PCQI training guide explains the options. For the team around them, the HACCP Course and Food Safety for Food Managers build working knowledge.
  • Allergen control. Allergen cross-contact is one of the hazards plants most often train line crews on. Allergen Awareness Training has a Spanish edition for line crews.
  • Lockout/tagout. OSHA’s 29 CFR 1910.147 requires retraining whenever job assignments, machines, or processes change, and a periodic inspection of energy control procedures at least annually. Sanitation crews who clean equipment are a common gap. Electrical Safety and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) covers the general content, and Machine Guard Safety pairs with it for line operators. Your machine-specific procedures still need a hands-on walkthrough.

Our overview of FSMA, HACCP, and OSHA training for food processing plants maps these rules by role.

How should a plant deliver training across shifts and languages?

This is where plant buyers should spend demo time, because it is where deployments fail. Three questions decide it:

Group or individual? Alchemy is built for supervisor-led group sessions. Coggno’s LMS is built for individual assignment and completion, with mobile access on every plan. A plant with a strong huddle culture may prefer the first; a plant with high turnover and staggered start dates often prefers the second, because each new hire gets assigned on day one rather than waiting for the next group session.

Shared devices or personal ones? If line workers have no company email or phone, test how each vendor ties a completion on a shared station to an individual worker. A record that says “FloorTablet2 completed HACCP” will not survive an audit. Our guide to kiosk mode in compliance training lists what to test.

Which languages, really? Alchemy’s instant translation reaches the most languages. Coggno offers courses in 15+ languages, including Spanish editions of core plant courses such as Seguridad eléctrica y bloqueo/etiquetado (LOTO) and Concientización sobre el Lavado de Manos. Check the exact courses you need in the exact languages your crews speak. Our article on training Spanish-speaking and limited-English workers covers how to document comprehension.

Consider a hypothetical 340-person snack plant with two 10-hour shifts and a weekend sanitation crew. Supervisors already run a 10-minute pre-shift huddle, but sanitation staff work nights and never attend it. The plant keeps huddles for food safety culture and moves annual and onboarding courses to individual assignment, so the sanitation crew stops showing up as a gap in its records. Technically, either vendor can support that split. The difference is price and what else sits in the catalog.

Should you replace your platform or add courses to it?

Many plants already have an LMS from a corporate parent or an EHS suite. You do not have to replace it to change content providers. Course Dispatch delivers Coggno courses as SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004 packages into any SCORM-compliant LMS, so completions stay in the system your auditors already know. If you would rather consolidate, Coggno’s own LMS assigns, tracks, and certifies, and Coggno Prime adds custom content upload, so your own sanitation SOP videos can sit next to licensed courses. Our meatpacking and poultry training guide shows a full plant course map built this way.

Frequently Asked Questions About Alchemy Systems Alternatives

What is the best Alchemy Systems alternative for food manufacturers?

For food and beverage plants that need food safety, OSHA, and HR training in one catalog with published pricing, Coggno is a strong Alchemy alternative. It offers 10,000+ compliance courses from 50+ content partners, including HACCP, allergen, GMP, and lockout/tagout courses, from $9.95 per course or $5 per user per month on Coggno Prime.

How do mid-size food manufacturers handle compliance training without a training department?

Mid-size plants typically pair a short supervisor huddle for food safety culture with an LMS that assigns and records required courses individually. Coggno fits the second role with 10,000+ pre-built courses, automatic certificates, and reports by group, so a plant manager can show training records without building content.

Does FDA require records of food safety training?

Yes. FDA’s rule at 21 CFR 117.4 requires food workers to receive training in food hygiene and food safety appropriate to their duties, and requires records documenting that training to be established and maintained.

Does Coggno offer PCQI certification?

No. Coggno does not sell preventive controls qualified individual certification. Plants should plan a separate PCQI course for the person who oversees the food safety plan and use Coggno for the broader workforce.

Can Coggno courses run in the LMS we already use?

Yes. Course Dispatch delivers Coggno courses as SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004 packages into any SCORM-compliant LMS, so completions stay in your existing system.

Does Intertek Alchemy publish its pricing?

Not on its website as of November 6, 2026. Its pages invite buyers to request information or book a demo, so pricing is quote-based.

Which languages do Alchemy and Coggno offer?

Alchemy lists English, Spanish, and Canadian French, with instant translation into 80+ more languages. Coggno offers courses in 15+ languages, including Spanish editions of core plant courses such as allergen awareness and lockout/tagout.
