Workplace Safety (VOSHA State Plan)
Requirements
- Provide a workplace free from recognized hazards under the Vermont Occupational Safety and Health Act
- Train employees on hazards specific to their jobs (hazard communication, machine safety, PPE, fall protection, etc.)
- Maintain injury and illness records and post required VOSHA notices
- OSHA 10-Hour General Industry training is widely used to satisfy foundational safety-awareness expectations

Certification Details
- OSHA 10-Hour cards are issued through the DOL Outreach program and do not expire
- Task- and hazard-specific training must be provided at hire and when new hazards are introduced
Penalties
- VOSHA penalties align with federal OSHA maximums (approximately $16,000+ per serious violation, higher for willful/repeat)
- Failure-to-abate and recordkeeping violations carry additional per-day penalties
