Codes in Canada typically require fire alarm systems to be installed in accordance with CAN/ULC-S524, verified in accordance with CAN/ULC-S537 and is inspected and tested in accordance with CAN/ULC-S536-04. The inspection and testing procedures outlined in CAN/ULC-S536 ensure the fire alarm system and the various system components are still working correctly to provide an early warning of fire or other emergency conditions, enabling building occupants to act and evacuate safely.
Over the course of three modules, this training will review key inspection and testing procedures found in the Standard, with a focus on the detailed inspection and testing reports found in the Appendix E of the Standard itself. These modules will include the following information:
Module One
Module One begins with an overview of inspection and testing procedures for fire alarm systems found in the S536 Standard, including discussion about the general components of a fire alarm system, the control unit functions that are tested under CAN/ULC S536, the control unit inspection process, and the detailed system test and inspection records that are used to facilitate the inspection process.
Module Two
Module Two continues by identifying how to inspect and test large scale power supplies, primary and emergency power supplies, annunciators and sequential displays, remote trouble signal units, printers, and field devices.
Module Three
Module Three finishes by examining the inspection and testing procedures for a wide variety of field devices.
