Description
Heat is one of the most dangerous hazards workers face, and it is also one of the most preventable. Employees who work outdoors, in hot indoor spaces, or in heavy protective clothing can develop heat-related illness quickly, sometimes with little warning. This course gives employees the practical knowledge they need to stay safe when temperatures climb.
Learners begin with how heat affects the body and what makes a workplace hot enough to be a hazard, including humidity, physical workload, direct sun, and heat-trapping gear. The course then covers the range of heat-related illnesses, from heat rash and heat cramps through heat exhaustion and heat stroke, with clear signs and symptoms for each so employees can act before a situation becomes an emergency.
A dedicated lesson looks at who faces higher risk, including new and returning workers who have not yet acclimatized. Prevention is covered through the Water, Rest, and Shade approach, along with workplace controls, acclimatization schedules, and early reporting of symptoms. The emergency response lesson walks through what to do when a coworker shows signs of heat illness and when to call for medical help.
The course closes with the roles and responsibilities that employers and employees share in following workplace heat-safety procedures, followed by a final assessment.
