It’s usually mandatory to undergo alcohol testing if you’re in the transportation industry. It’s simply part of the job. Alcohol testing became a requirement in 1991 as part of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act. It’s part of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s effort to ensure that all transportation providers are drug- and alcohol-free – whether on the road, rails, waterways, or in the air.
