The healthcare industry relies heavily on chemicals — from cleaning and disinfecting agents to laboratory chemicals, medical gases, anesthetic agents, and cytotoxic drugs — making chemical safety a critical concern for workers and patients alike. Improper use, handling, or storage of these substances can cause serious harm, making comprehensive chemical safety training an essential component of any healthcare organization's safety program.
 
 This course is designed to equip healthcare workers with the foundational knowledge needed to recognize chemical hazards and work safely with the chemicals they encounter in their daily roles. Learners will explore the two main classes of chemicals found in healthcare settings, the three primary routes of chemical exposure, and the dose-response relationship that determines how chemical exposure affects the human body.
 
 The course also covers the health and safety risks associated with chemical exposure, common exposure limit terminology, and why adhering to established exposure limits is critical to worker safety. A dedicated section on prevention and protection methods gives learners practical guidance on selecting and applying the right controls — including engineering controls, safe work practices, and personal protective equipment — to minimize risk in their specific work environment.
 
 Upon completion, employees will have the knowledge needed to handle chemicals safely, reduce the risk of exposure-related illness or injury, and support a safer workplace for both staff and patients.
