So you’re proofreading your LMS course material. Whatever you do, don’t rely solely on spelling and grammar tools! Howard L. Chace’s “Ladle Rat Rotten Hut”, a malapropism of Little Red Riding Hood, demonstrates this necessity:
“Wants pawn term dare worsted ladle gull joe lift wetter murder inner ladle cordage honor itch offer lodge, dock, florist.”
Spell check tools pass over homophones like “to” and “two”, or “there” and “their”. For this reason and others, it’s essential to get a second pair of eyes to look over your course material before you upload it to an LMS.
Of course, good writing doesn’t necessarily equal formal writing. Depending on the nature of the LMS course and subject, you’ll want to keep your language as simple and conversational as possible. Use contractions whenever appropriate. The idea is to make the course material easy, smooth and enjoyable to read.
