Standard Precautions are practices used to reduce the spread of infection. They are based on the principle that all blood, body fluids, secretions, excretions (except sweat,) non-intact skin and mucous membranes may contain infectious agents. Standard Precautions consist of various practices including hand hygiene, personal protective equipment (gloves, gown, mask or eye protection), and cough etiquette.

With COVID-19 everyone should follow standard precaution practices, social distancing measures, and any other recommendations or guidelines set by the CDC (Center for Disease Control).

Standard precautions can prevent you from becoming infected and transmitting infectious agents to others including those at high risk.
